aAccording to the American Heart Association: “These days, adults like you are spending more time at work than ever before. An unfortunate side effect is that, as a nation, we’re becoming more inactive. This is a problem when you consider the fact that physical inactivity doubles the risk of heart disease!”

As part of the American Heart Association’s effort to get adults moving, they have christened the first Wednesday of April, National Start Walking Day.  National Start Walking Day is a day dedicated to getting the word out that adding simple exercise to your daily routine can help combat heart disease.

I am a big walker and whole-heartedly endorse this effort and will be celebrating National Start Walking Day .  In addition to the obvious health benefits, I think walking can enhance experiences like traveling.  When visiting a new city I find the best way to get to know the place is to get a good map and start walking.

So get out there and start walking!
