pw1If you have been following the Lost Cowboy story, you know that I do not have a green thumb but am envious of anyone who does as I love plants and flowers.  My experiments with vegetable gardens and other seasonal pursuits are well documented.  However, my real failures have been indoors – where I have never been able to keep a plant alive for very long.  This includes “low maintainence” things like cacti.

So you can imagine how I am approaching the latest gift from my dear friend Lynda: a collection of paper white bulbs.  Lynda was so sweet to bring me several of these bulbs as a gift for hosting her on her recent visit.

Lynda assured me that I would be able to successfully grow paper whites inside using a shallow container with rocks to hold water and allow the bulbs to root and the flowers to grow.

I found some good tips and other resources for growing paper white bulbs on eHow, and Lynda gave me a few great suggestions.  I have a couple of ideas for using the bulbs Lynda gave me in my holiday decorating – which I will document here as I progress. 

In the meantime, wish me luck in turning these babies into something truly beautiful:
