Arkansas on hold…

A few weeks ago in a post I mentioned that I may be visiting Arkansas soon.  This tidbit set of a firestorm of reactions ranging from incredulity to shock.  Well, circumstances have changed so the trip is off, at least for the time being.  But I still want the Rudyard Billet Bag from Arkansas’ Martin Dingman.

The Hills are Alive…

MWHEarlier this week I drove up to the Mount Washington area, which is just a little farther north than where I am here in New Hampshire. I went to Bretton Woods, a charming mountain town just on the other side of Crawford Notch.  I had planned to meet a friend who was vacationing with her family at the Mount Washington Resort.  We dined at the glorious Mount Washington Hotel, one of those Victorian grand hotels that has been restored to all its glory.

If you are visiting the Mount Washington area of New Hampshire and looking for the complete resort experience, the Mount Washington Resort is the place for you.  There is a golf course, spa, and everything else you can imagine in a resort.  The setting, right at the foot of Mt. Washington, provides amazing views, and some of the area’s best ski areas are close by.

Anyway, I had been to the Mount Washington Hotel a few times in the past and was reminded on this trip how cool a place it is just to visit for a lunch or dinner.

And the Tony goes to…

On the eve of last week’s Tony Awards, I posted about some of the nominees in which I had a rooting interest.  I am pleased to acknowledge that most of my favorites went on to win.  In particular,  The Gershwin’s’ Porgy and Bess, a production which had its world premiere at the American Reparatory Theatre (ART) in Cambridge, MA last summer, which I was able to see,  won Best Revival of a Musical.  In addition, the amazing  Audra McDonald won Best Performance by Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for her portrayal of Bess in that production.  Meanwhile on the play front, James Corden, who delivers a tour-de-force in One Man, Two Guvnors, won for Best Performance/Actor in a Leading Role in a Play.  Congrats to all!

Tiptoe through the Tulips…

Meanwhile, my container garden is pretty much all set up for the season.  I transplanted all of my seedlings and so far they all seem to be thriving.  In fact, last weekend I was able to harvest some early basil to use as quick topping on some pizzas I made – and it was yummy.  So far I seem to have been successful in keeping the groundhog away, so I hope for a healthy harvest.  Another highlight of my container garden is the hummingbird buffet I have set up.  I strung a collection of five hummingbird nectar feeders out near the garden and they have had almost constant visitors from the start.  Very cool.

Have a great weekend!
