It is near peak foliage here in NH and my favorite place to check in on the fall colors is, well, the peak of Mount Chocorua in Tamworth, NH.  I love the line of bright trees on the opposite shore.  Sadly, in a matter of days the leaves will be all gone and this scene will be ready for the snow.

ABC2I don’t really like birds, save for hummingbirds and the occasion duck.  But I like many bird-related things, like feathers, birdhouses and oddly, birdfeeders.  I also like decoys and bird calls, maybe because they were originally designed to help hunter attract birds.

I really like a set of six wooden American Bird Calls I found from Portland, OR-based retailer Canoe.

About the American Bird Calls from Canoe.: “Carefully hand crafted by a small workshop in France, each of the wooden calls accurately duplicates the songs of birds in the wild, and comes packaged in its own wooden box. The set of six includes: Robin, Mourning Dove, Owl, Common Gallinule, Warbler, and Mallard Duck. Birding is one of the fastest growing outdoor hobbies and no wonder–what other language can be learned as easily?”

I think these American Bird Calls would be fun just to have hanging around the cabin as decoration and to use for parties as noisemakers.  Let’s just hope they don’t do their intended job too well. Guano anyone?

BTW – made in France!
