phillipsIf you really want to see some of the most exquisite pieces of art or the rarest of antiquities that are available to own, you really have to look through the catalogs of some of the high-end auction houses.  I particularly like Phillips de Pury & Company.

About Phillips de Pury & Company: “Phillips was founded in London in 1796 by Harry Phillips, formerly senior clerk to James Christie. During his first year of business, Phillips conducted twelve successful auctions and soon the business was holding sales for some of the most distinguished collectors of the day including Marie Antoinette, Beau Brummel and Napoleon Bonaparte.”

I like browsing Phillips’ auction catalogs and fantasizing about what I would buy were I able to spend so much money.  The auctions and items Phillips represents area far cry from the country auctions I haunt.  Although it is fund to look at what the 1% can bid on, but there is still nothing like getting a steal in a box lot down on the farm.

Phillips also runs shops in New York and London.
