dohIn honor of Fathers’ Day coming up this Sunday, today’s book is all about dad: Dads Are the Original Hipsters by Brad Getty.

In the grand tradition of new media (blogs) evolving into old media (books) Dads Are the Original Hipsters is a print version of Mr. Getty’s online archive of vintage pictures and anecdotes about how everything old is new again – specifically, all the cool hip things today’s hipsters seem to have discovered themselves are actually time honored activities of their parents’ generation. Go figure.

About Dads Are the Original Hipsters by Brad Getty: “He listened to vinyl before you did. He drank whiskey before you did. He had a mustache before you did. Admit it: your dad was a hipster before you were! Based on the blog phenomenon of the same name, this book celebrates dads as the original hipsters. Vintage photos of real dads back in the day—in their short shorts and tight tees playing arcade games—accompany snarky captions that at once tip a cap to Dad’s glory days and poke fun at modern hipsters. Featuring tons of never-before-seen content, this is the perfect gift for dads, hipsters, and those who love to tease them!”

The book’s vintage pictures are great and it turns out the book is actually an homage to the past as opposed to a celebration of the youth movement of today. Which is a good thing as I am closer to the former than the latter. Dads Are the Original Hipsters by Brad Getty is all in good fun and would make a great gift for that dad of a certain age or the new dad who hopes to be as cool.

Dads Are the Original Hipsters by Brad Getty is available from Amazon and other fine booksellers.
