Right on schedule… Labor Day weekend has me already nostalgic for another New England Summer coming to an end. It is a time when I get sentimental for the summer that just flew by and summers long past.

When I saw this evocative print, Bear Island Mail Call, I was overcome with nostalgia for the quintessential summer experience on New Hampshire’s Lake Winnipesaukee. The print by artist Peter Ferber, depicts summer residents lining up for the daily US Mail boat arriving at the island which only reachable by water.

The print reminds me of my own summers on the lake as a child which included visits to Bear Island and the many other summer communities around the Big Lake.

For the past couple of years I have featured dozens of photos of Mount Chocorua from a perspective of a bridge crossing Lake Chocorua in Tamworth, NH.  Well, today, I present a picture of the mountain from a different perspective: the summit!  That’s right, last weekend I hauled my cookies all the way up to the top of the mountain and looked down on the spot where I am usually standing when looking at the beauty of Chocorua.

Two perspectives – the view from the bridge (below, top) and the view of the bridge from the summit  (below bottom) – the artful red arrow is where I was:
