JCWhile exploring the north side of the Kansas City area for the first time over this past weekend, I stumbled upon Jowler Creek Vineyard and Winery in Platte City, MO – which promotes itself as “Missouri’s First Green Vineyard and Winery.”

I am not a wine drinker (give me bourbon any day) but I love vineyards and I love supporting local wines so finding a great winery right in my new city’s back yard is just perfect.

About Jowler Creek, Missouri’s First Green Vineyard and Winery: “We’re located just 30 minutes North of downtown Kansas City and use green technologies, such as solar power, to make our wine and sheep to control weeds and chickens to reduce insects in our 6-acre sustainable vineyard. We currently make nine award-winning wines in various styles ranging from dry to sweet, and our on-site tasting room is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for free wine tastings. You can also find our wines at more than 75 local stores in Kansas and Missouri.”

One of the things I like about regional wines is that they make great gifts. I am going to snag a few bottles of Jowler Creek wines to send back to my friends in New England so they don’t forget about me.
