buckI’ve wanted to go on vacation at a dude ranch ever since I saw City Slickers back in the early 90’s. Now that I find myself in Kansas, (Kansas?), I am closer than ever to making that dream come true.

It turns out there are quite a few places nearby where you can have a good old fashioned cowboy on the prairie vacation experience – but none better, I am told, than that offered at Moore Ranch in Bucklin, Kansas.

About Moore Ranch in Bucklin, Kansas: “The Moore Ranch is a working ranch in the wide open prairie about 45 miles southeast of historic Dodge City, Kansas. We usually have about 300 Texas Longhorn cattle at the ranch and about 50 horses, depending on the season and how the weather treats what’s growing on the prairie. Our home place is about 1,400 acres, but we run on up to 6,000 acres of rolling hills, trees, creeks, and rocky hillsides. It’s beautiful country.”

Moore Ranch offers northeastern nerds, like me, the opportunity to visit a working ranch, to work, relax and just plain have fun.
