aa1The Christmas Markets in Europe are a time-honored tradition and a great way to get into the holiday spirit. There is a growing trend of bringing this type of holiday market to the U.S. and one of the best is the Christkindlmarket that takes over Chicago’s Daley Plaza for a few weeks every year.

About Chicago’s Christkindlmarket: “Inspired by the Christkindlesmarkt in Nuremberg, Germany, which began in 1545, the Christkindlmarket Chicago brings a cherished German and European tradition with international flair and local charm to Chicago. Chicago’s largest open-air Christmas festival was first held on Pioneer Court in 1996. Each year, people from all over the world visit the Christkindlmarket Chicago. The outdoor market in the Chicago Loop has become so popular and loved by everyone that any Chicagoan will tell you that they could not imagine the city without it. Christkindlmarket Chicago is no longer just a German tradition, it has become a Chicago institution. The unique shopping experience, typical German food and drinks, as well as diverse holiday entertainment make the Christkindlmarket Chicago a preferred and popular destination.”

I popped into the Christkindlmarket on Saturday on my way to the theater. The place was bustling with revelers enjoying the scene along with traditional food and beverages. And oh yeah, it was snowing!

Had I not already been in the Christmas Spirit this would have done it – drinking hot cocoa at a Christmas market in the snow…

Christkindlmarket continues at Chicago’s Daley Plaza until Christmas Eve.

The Dashing Through the Booze Cocktail Napkin from True Brands: “Spilled your cocktail again, eh? No problem. It is Christmas. This mock classy napkin set will get your guests in the mood for the holidays. Just try to keep them from drinking and reading the napkins at the same time. Red wine stains.”
