I have mentioned before that I do not care for oysters, but I like a lot about them. I like vintage printed oyster cans, I like oyster knives, and I love Wellfleet on Cape Cod which is world famous for their oysters. But I also like oyster plates. Some oyster plates are so ornate they are works of art on their own, like the Ceramic Oyster Plate by Abigails I found from the fine folks at The White Dogwood.

About the Ceramic Oyster Plate by Abigails from The White Dogwood:

“The Ceramic Round Oyster Plate Lavender is a whimsical oyster design that is hand-painted. It is perfect for serving oysters at your seafood gathering. Made of ceramic.”

It is a good time to be an anglophile and a royalist, the British Royal family has renewed interest in popular culture with the royal wedding of Prince Harry coming up, and The Crown, about the life of his grandmother, the Queen herself, is one of the biggest hits on Netflix. So it comes as no surprise that there is a slew of new books out (as if there ever stopped being new books about the Royals), but none as fulfilling as My Husband and I – The Inside Story of 70 Years of the Royal Marriage by Ingrid Seward – which makes a nice companion to The Crown filling in more details about the life, and specifically the marriage, of the longest-serving monarch in British history.

About My Husband and I – The Inside Story of 70 Years of the Royal Marriage by Ingrid Seward:

“When a young Princess Elizabeth met and fell in love with the dashing Naval Lieutenant Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark, it wasn’t without its problems. The romance between the sailor prince and the young princess brought a splash of colour to a nation still in the grip of post-war austerity. When they married in Westminster Abbey in November 1947, there were 3000 guests, including six kings and seven queens. Within five years, as Queen Elizabeth II, she would ascend to the throne and later be crowned in front of millions watching through the new medium of television.”

My Husband and I – The Inside Story of 70 Years of the Royal Marriage by Ingrid Seward is available from Amazon and other fine booksellers everywhere.

OK, so you may have noticed that for the first time in a long time my posts have slowed down. Well, that is because things have been so crazy that I really have not had a second to write. The reason? I just bought a new house – well new to me anyway. A delightful mid-century gem just across the river from the great metropolis of Kansas City, MO in a charming little village on the Kansas prairie and I am loving it.

What does this mean for Lost Cowboy? Well, you will have to put up with my posts about finding just the right things to make my place home. Other than that, no changes, I just moved about a half a mile from my old house.

Anyway, I’m back and looking forward to sharing more of my great Finds with you.

I have been looking for the perfect fire pit for a while now – and I am glad I waited until now to purchase one for a couple of reasons. First, I just bought a new house with an awesome outside area perfect for a fire, and second – I just found the perfect fire pit – the Fancy Flames Globe Leaf Outdoor Fire Pit I found from the fine folks at All Modern.

I have featured works by, and biographies of, the great Roald Dahl a few times in the past, and I always mentioned that he is one of my all-time favorite authors. It was the works of Mr. Dahl that really got me excited about reading when I was young, and even as an adult I have re-read many of his works and appreciated them on a whole other level. Simply put, the dude was a genius. I have recently been revisiting his better-known works, like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and just the other day I finished the great James and the Giant Peach. Having last read this classic about 20 years ago (aloud to someone I was dating at the time – it was our thing) I found this delightful tale to be as entertaining as ever.

About James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl:

“James as he escapes from his horrible aunts and sets off inside the peach on his wonderful adventures. This dramatization of Roald Dahl’s hugely popular book can be staged in school, acted out at home or simply read together by a group of fiends. With suggestions for staging, props and lighting. Roald Dahl died in 1990 but his books continue to be worldwide bestsellers. Richard George was an American elementary school teacher when he adapted James and the Giant Peach as a school play. Roald Dahl loved it and wrote an introduction.”

If you grew up a fan of Mr. Dahl I encourage you to rediscover him and share his works with people in your life young and old. If you have never read any of his works, I envy you, as you will have the great pleasure of discovering something great for the first time.

James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl is available from Amazon and other fine retailers everywhere.

Believe it or not it is hard to find really good olive oil these days – especially imported oil. It turns out there is so much fake oil out there, even in top brands, so you have to be weary. Which is why I like to stay with a quality product like the Extra Virgin “Shorty” Olive Oil I found from fine folks at The Other Brother.

About the Extra Virgin “Shorty” Olive Oil from The Other Brother:

“Our Extra Virgin ‘Shorty’ features our favorite blend of California grown olives (Arbequina, Leccino and Pendolino) which we call the ‘Growers Blend’. Great for daily use, this oil is fruity, buttery and smooth, with a slight kick of pepperiness at the end to leave you wanting more.”

FF: The 1971 Blended Scotch Whisky from Last Drop Distillers

Blended scotch whiskies are a dime a dozen, although most are not that great, but you will love the 1971 Blended Scotch Whisky I found from the fine folks at Last Drop Distillers.

About the 1971 Blended Scotch Whisky from Last Drop Distillers:

“In 1971 the astronauts of Apollo 14 were busy hitting golf balls from the moon and Disney World was opening its doors in Orlando to the joy of American children… and in Scotland some 40 different distilleries of malt and grain whiskies were busy distilling the spirits that would eventually become part of a truly exceptional blend. First blended in 1983 as a Premium 12 Year Old for the USA, the balance after bottling was refilled into 11 ex-Oloroso Sherry Butts. After a further nine years of ageing, a small volume was siphoned off and bottled as a 21 Year Old Blend. What remained was refilled once more, this time into nine ex-American Oak Barrels. These nine casks were returned to an old traditional dunnage maturation warehouse where they lay for a further 24 years until we bottled the whisky, in its prime, at the grand age of 45 years.”
