I don’t care much for chocolate, I know, crazy right? But most people I know do and I think fine chocolate makes for a great gift. Which is why I love the fine folks at Compartés Chocolates who offer the highest quality chocolate, with hip packaging, all delivered with and artistic flare.

I am an unabashed fan of the “King of All Media” – the radio personality and icon that is the great Howard Stern. I have listened to him for decades and have found myself always having to explain to people why I am a fan. Now, with his third book, Howard Stern Comes Again, I don’t have to explain anymore, I can just give folks the book. Mr. Stern, who most people think of as a vulgar “shock jock” is now considered among his peers and listeners alike as one of the best interviewers in media today. Now of course there is the truth to the former, but I have always seen his humanity and authenticity shining through – and he has evolved over the years as well (as have I). This book compiles some of Mr. Stern’s best interviews while he recounts his own personal journey of evolution – which makes for a great read for fans and nonfans alike.

About Howard Stern Comes Again by Howard Stern:

“Rock stars and rap gods. Comedy legends and A-list actors. Supermodels and centerfolds. Moguls and mobsters. A president. Over his unrivaled four-decade career in radio, Howard Stern has interviewed thousands of personalities—discussing sex, relationships, money, fame, spirituality, and success with the boldest of bold-faced names. But which interviews are his favorites? It’s one of the questions he gets asked most frequently. Howard Stern Comes Again delivers his answer. This book is a feast of conversation and more, as between the lines Stern offers his definitive autobiography—a magnum opus of confession and personal exploration. Tracy Morgan opens up about his near-fatal car crash. Lady Gaga divulges her history with cocaine. Madonna reminisces on her relationship with Tupac Shakur. Bill Murray waxes philosophical on the purpose of life. Jerry Seinfeld offers a master class on comedy.”

Howard Stern Comes Again by Howard Stern is available from Amazon and other fine booksellers everywhere.

I love pop culture stories and figures from yesteryear. It is hard to imagine for example, just how popular Charles Lindbergh was after his historic transatlantic solo flight, or the cultural impact of Rudolph Valentino and Harry Houdini had in the early years of the last century – and I have enjoyed learning more about these figures in the past. But those examples are pretty obvious, and you can easily learn more about them. But every now and then an under told story comes along that is as fantastical and unbelievable and I eat it right up. Such is the case with Topsy – The Startling Story of the Crooked-Tailed Elephant, P. T. Barnum, and the American Wizard, Thomas Edison by Michael Daly. I had never heard of Topsy before I picked up this book and was instantly drawn in by this wonderful telling of a lost story that fascinated our not so distant ancestors.

About Topsy – The Startling Story of the Crooked-Tailed Elephant, P. T. Barnum, and the American Wizard, Thomas Edison by Michael Daly:

“In 1903, an elephant named Topsy was electrocuted on Coney Island, and ever since, this bizarre execution has reverberated through popular culture with the whiff of urban legend. But it really happened, and many historical forces conspired to bring Topsy, Thomas Edison, and those 6,600 volts of alternating current together. In Topsy, Michael Daly weaves them together into a fascinating popular history. The first elephant arrived in America in 1796, but it wasn’t until after the Civil War that the circus entered its golden age, thanks especially to P. T. Barnum and Adam Forepaugh (or 4-Paw). With fantastic detail, Daly brings this world to life: caravans, crooks, and side-shows. And he captures the life of the animals, both the cruelties they suffered and, when treated with kindness, their remarkable feats. Rich in period Americana, and full of larger-than-life characters—both human and elephant—Topsy is a touching, entertaining read.”

If you were as disappointed as I was in the recent live action remake of Dumbo, you can get you pachyderm fix with this colorful, informative and thoroughly entertaining book.

Topsy – The Startling Story of the Crooked-Tailed Elephant, P. T. Barnum, and the American Wizard, Thomas Edison by Michael Daly is available from Amazon and other fine booksellers everywhere.

It’s been a while since I have geeked out on a find as much as I am going to geek out today. I am over the moon after discovering the Trafalgar Square building kit from the fine folks at LEGO® Architecture.

If you have spent any time on Lost Cowboy you will know that I love London, and in a city full of special places I love to be, Trafalgar Square is the epitome of the great city to me. So add that special place to LEGO and you make me a very happy camper.

About the Trafalgar Square building kit from LEGO® Architecture:

“Capture the essence of a historical London landmark with the LEGO® Architecture 21045 Trafalgar Square set. Named in honor of Lord Horatio Nelson following his 1805 naval victory over Napoleon, the square has since become a popular tourist attraction and preferred location for political and community gatherings. This detailed LEGO interpretation depicts the domed National Gallery complete with columned facade, Nelson’s Column flanked by 4 lions, the square’s famous fountains and 4 sculpture plinths. The sections at the rear of the National Gallery structure can be removed for access to a detailed interior with brick-built statue and paintings. Tree-lined borders, ornate lampposts, 2 London buses, 2 black cabs and a tiled baseplate depicting the square and surrounding roads complete the model. Finished with a decorative nameplate, this collectible building set delivers a highly satisfying building experience to all with an interest in architecture, travel, history and design, and makes a truly iconic centerpiece for the home or office.”

I burn a lot of candles and if there is one thing I have learned over the years it is you need to keep your candle wicks in order. A long wick can lead to unnecessary smoking and other dangers. Which is why my Nana used to always say: “If you are going to burn candles, you need to have a quality wick trimmer” (sic). So that’s why I love the Candle Wick Trimmer collection I found from the fine folks at Wickman Products – specialist in “unique candle accessories.”

I like Wickman’s Candle Wick Trimmers in red (above right):

“Candle Wick Trimmer. 7″ long with debris catching trays. Keep wick trimmed down to 1/4 inch for a longer, cleaner, safer candle burn. Reduces soot emissions and discoloration of glass. Ergonomic shape makes reaching and trimming wicks a breeze. Made from steel. Weighs 3 ounces.
