I have never been a bow tie type of guy but always wanted to be one – especially when rocking a seersucker suit at a summer wedding. The problem has always been where to go to find the perfect bow tie that makes more of a statement than just what a bow tie does on its own. But things are about to change, now that I have found the Dunbar Feather Bow Tie from the fine folks at Brackish Bow Ties.

About the Dunbar Feather Bow Tie from Brackish:

“When Fall sets in, the Big Dipper lies close to the northern horizon in the early evening. The legend is the “Great Bear” comes down to wash his paws in the northern lakes before they are sealed by winter’s ice. The Dunbar is the starry night sky in the Autumn air. The Dunbar feather bow tie is a deep iridescent navy. Center wrap is black grosgrain. Made with pheasant feathers.:

It’s definitely summer in the Northern Hemisphere and the days are hot and the nights uncomfortable. Sure, a little AC is fine, but there is nothing like a good old fashioned (literally) ceiling fan to keep the air moving. Which is why I like the Peregrine Ceiling Fan I found from the fine folks at Rejuvenation.

About the Peregrine Ceiling Fan from Rejuvenation:

“An original Rejuvenation design, the Peregrine ceiling fan offers industrial design with modern energy-saving technology. Its DC motor that uses 70% less energy than conventional alternatives, and its ABS blades are pitched to move air efficiently and effectively throughout the room. Choose from multiple finish and blade options to customize your Peregrine.”

It’s summer, the perfect time to stretch out and relax with a pure escapist book, like anything ever written by Clive Cussler and his associates. Cussler’s books are pure adventure and always a thrill. Lucky for us, there is a new one out to kick off summer 2020: Wrath of Poseidon by Clive Cussler and Robin Burcell

About Wrath of Poseidon by Clive Cussler and Robin Burcell:

“Husband-and-wife team Sam and Remi Fargo come up against an old enemy while searching for a treasure that has been lost for centuries in this exciting adventure in the bestselling series by the Clive Cussler, Grand Master of Adventure. Ten years ago, a chance meeting at the Lighthouse Café in Redondo Beach led Sam Fargo and Remi Longstreet on the adventure of a lifetime, hunting the legendary riches stolen from the Persian King Croesus in 546 B.C. But they weren’t the only ones. Someone else is after the gold, and he’s willing to kill anyone who gets in his way.”

Wrath of Poseidon by Clive Cussler and Robin Burcell is available from Amazon and other fine booksellers everywhere.

Once upon a time I had the chance to inherit an orange couch, but I lost out. I’m not sure exactly what happened but I really wanted an orange couch (and an orange cat, but that is a story for another time). Anyway, all this to say that whenever I see orange furniture I get excited. This happened recently when I spotted the Soto Apartment Chair from the fine folks at Joybird – which is available in many colors, including orange.

About the Soto Apartment Chair from Joybird:

“Yes, it IS possible to get museum-quality style in a size that doesn’t crowd your whole studio apartment. Our perfectly proportioned Soto apartment chair is ideal for pairing with the Soto apartment ottoman as both have significantly lower-profiles than their full-sized counterparts. Inspired by the Danish-modern Selig ‘Z’ chair, this smaller Soto features a narrow silhouette and minimized legroom, true to Danish form.”

I should start with a chair – especially one as elegantly designed as the Soto – a big orange couch may not be the right thing for me right now. But a big orange cat on the other hand…

Most summer evenings I sit out on my lanai (fancy Hawaiian word for patio I stole from The Golden Girls) in a little gazebo. Although the gazebo has screening on the sides, the occasional mosquito or other flying pest makes it in, so I usually have a citronella torch or candle burning, which really does help. But what would really help is leveling up to the Citronella Sea Salt candle I found from the fine people at Skeem Design.

About the Citronella Sea Salt candle from Skeem Design:

“All-natural Citronella oil blended with ocean air and sea salt with hints of jasmine. Contains all-natural Citronella, grapefruit, lemon & lime oil. Citronella is a proven, all-natural, insect repellent made from the leaves and stems of the lemongrass plant. It repels insects by masking the smells biting insects are attracted to. Our citronella oils are blended with fine fragrances to smell as good as they look. Once lit, the only bugs you’ll see are the graphic ones silk-screened on these handsome candles. Hand poured in the USA with our exclusive soy base.”

Were you to spend even a minute in my home you would come to the conclusion (among many others) that I am obsessed with pens, pencils, and markers of any kind. I have tons of them stashed all over the house. Why do I have so many pens when you can arguably only use one at a time? Well, it’s because I keep finding cool new pens like the Catalina Colored Ink Felt Tip Pens I found from the fine folks at U Brands.

In every book about Winston Churchill (and there are many) there is one figure who emerges from the shadows behind the great man. The person is his wife, Clementine, who knew the man, and his exploits, better than anyone. Although Clementine gets more coverage in some books than in others, she is always there in some way. However, being by Churchill’s side as he made history for more than 50 years, you would think there would be more about Clementine out there. Now, in a long over-due biography, Clemmie (as Winston called her) gets the attention she deserves. Clementine: The Life of Mrs. Winston Churchill by Sonia Purnell is the book we have been waiting for to fill in the what’s been missing all these years.

About Clementine: The Life of Mrs. Winston Churchill by Sonia Purnell:

“Late in life, Winston Churchill claimed that victory in the Second World War would have been ‘impossible’ without the woman who stood by his side for fifty-seven turbulent years. Why, then, do we know so little about her? In this landmark biography, a finalist for the Plutarch prize, Sonia Purnell finally gives Clementine Churchill her due. Born into impecunious aristocracy, the young Clementine Hozier was the target of cruel snobbery. Many wondered why Winston married her, when the prime minister’s daughter was desperate for his attention. Yet their marriage proved to be an exceptional partnership. ‘You know,’ Winston confided to FDR, “I tell Clemmie everything.’”

Clementine: The Life of Mrs. Winston Churchill by Sonia Purnell is available from Amazon and other fine book retailers everywhere.

The year may be almost half over (mercifully) but that doesn’t mean it is too late to buy a new 2020 calendar. Especially a fine calendar like the 2020 Art Wall Calendar I found from the fine folks at Wilde House Paper. And yeah, it’s half off the original price.

About the 2020 Art Wall Calendar from Wilde House Paper:

“12 calendar prints composed of original art. High quality printing on luxe recycled paper in beach speckle. Gold wire spiral binding with a wire hanger for easy installation.”

There is still a lot of 2020 to go.
