The fine folks at Talia di Napoli have a pretty simple business proposition:

“Fresh, baked-in-Naples pizza that’s handmade by master pizzaiolos, delivered flash-frozen, and ready in minutes.”

Yes, this is not your supermarket frozen pizza (not that there is anything wrong with that), this is the real deal straight from Italy.

Tryout Talia di Napoli with their Novellino 8 Pack:

“What’s inside: 3x Margherita, 3x Provolina and 2x Mozzarella pizzas. Our regular pizzas weigh around 14.01 ounces and our Gluten Free pizzas weigh around 15.02. All our pizzas are around 10-11″ in diameter.”

I have mentioned before Pulitzer Prize-winning author Richard Russo is one of my favorites. He is still writing, but every now and then I like to revisit his earlier works. I recently reread his seminal novel, Mohawk from 1986, and it reminded me why I like Mr. Russo and how this first novel foreshadowed all his great work to follow.

About Mohawk by Richard Russo:

“Mohawk, New York, is one of those small towns that lie almost entirely on the wrong side of the tracks. Its citizens, too, have fallen on hard times. Dallas Younger, a star athlete in high school, now drifts from tavern to poker game, losing money, and, inevitably, another set of false teeth. His ex-wife, Anne, is stuck in a losing battle with her mother over the care of her sick father. And their son, Randall, is deliberately neglecting his school work–because in a place like Mohawk it doesn’t pay to be too smart.”

Mohawk by Richard Russo is available from Amazon and other fine booksellers everywhere.

I love my turntable and collection of classic vinyl LPs but I don’t pull them out too often because it’s a whole ordeal. But with the Teeny Tiny Turntable I found from the fine folks at Firebox, playing records is easy any time.

About the Teeny Tiny Turntable from Firebox:

Complete with three different mini-LPs, this turntable is truly teeny, tiny, and bags of fun. Just slot one of the ‘records’ onto the pin and give it a spin to hear 70s funk, classic rock, or a bit of good ol’ fashioned jazz.”

My New Year resolution to eat fewer dairy products is out the window now that I found out the fine folks at New York institution Murray’s Cheese has an online store!

About Murray’s Cheese:

“Founded in 1940 by Murray Greenberg, Murray’s Cheese is proud to be a Greenwich Village tradition and part of the neighborhood’s rich food history, along with neighboring destinations like Faicco’s, Ottomanelli’s and Rocco’s. It’s a pretty safe bet to say that we’re cheese obsessed: our goal is to find the most delicious cheese and specialty grocery items from across the globe, teach you a bit about them, and then make sure you enjoy them.”

There are so many choices at Murray’s, but I think it is always hard to find a nice gouda – and Murray’s has a great selection of Gouda.

About Gouda:

“Of all the cheese the Netherlands produces, Gouda is the undisputed king. Indeed, Gouda accounts for over half of all cheese produced in Holland. There are plenty of styles, from young Gouda to aged Gouda, to smoked Gouda, and each one undergoes a few of the same steps. Gouda must have washed curds, be of circular shape, and soaked in a brine solution. These steps give Gouda its universal properties. After that, it’s a matter of aging (sometimes for just a couple months, sometimes for several years) to give each Gouda its individual flavor.”

By the way Murray’s is not just cheese – it’s charcuterie too!

On this Presidential Inauguration Day in the US, it is the perfect time to look back in history where it all began. We can all learn a lot from the example George Washington set – heck, just about everything he did set the precedent for all that cam after – many traditions still be followed today. And it all started when Washington was inaugurated as the first president of the new republic in 1789 – recounted in great detail in The First Inauguration (George Washington and the Invention of the Republic) by Stephen Howard Browne.

About The First Inauguration by Stephen Howard Browne:

“In this book, distinguished scholar of early America Stephen Howard Browne chronicles the efforts of the first president of the United States of America to unite the nation through ceremony, celebrations, and oratory. The story follows Washington on his journey from Mount Vernon to the site of the inauguration in Manhattan, recounting the festivities—speeches, parades, dances, music, food, and flag-waving—that greeted the president-elect along the way. Considering the persuasive power of this procession, Browne captures in detail the pageantry, anxiety, and spirit of the nation to arrive at a more nuanced and richly textured perspective on what it took to launch the modern republican state.”

The First Inauguration by Stephen Howard Browne is available from Amazon and other fine booksellers everywhere.
