I like the idea of a take anywhere portable grill that takes the hassle out of lugging a heavey metal grill and gas or charcoal all around. But I am also weary of creating more waste. So I was happy to find the Casus Single Use Grill from the fine folks at Garrett Wade which is advertised as “An Eco-friendly, Nearly Smokeless BBQ Grill.” Sounds pretty perfect to me if not too late for Memorial Day weekend.

Maine is famous for the blueberries that color the countryside in the summer – wild and cultivated. If you are lucky enough this season to have permission to do some picking of wild berries somewhere, or at one of the many “pick your own” farms, I found the perfect thing to help you be more productive – the Huckleberry Comb Berry Harvester from the fine folks at Garrett Wade.

About the Huckleberry Comb Berry Harvester from Garrett Wade.:

“It’s one thing taking the kids berry-picking as a fun family excursion; it’s another if you actually want to pick a lot of berries at once. Save yourself the effort (and stained fingers) with our unique “Huckleberry Comb” Berry Harvester. Made in Germany and based on a centuries-old design, it’s an ingenious tool—the type of thing born of a homesteader’s necessity and smarts. We should stress that we don’t recommend this for harvesting soft, seedy berries like raspberries or blackberries, which are too delicate and should still be picked by hand. But for small, round berries—think blueberries, cranberries, and, of course, huckleberries—this works like a dream. Slide the front tines under a particularly full stem, pull taut, and use a short snap of the wrist once you feel pressure. It takes a little getting used to but soon becomes second nature.”

It is definitely bug season here on the Kansas prairie just across the river from the great city of Kansas City, MO. And with a lot of late spring rain, the mosquitos are sure to be multiplying and hungry. But I have found the perfect thing to help control the little beasts while I’m hanging out on the lanai: the Jumbo Citronella Sea Salt Incense I found from the fine folks at Skeem Design.

I am big Roald Dahl fan and I think I have pretty much read everything he ever published. However, I will always remember my first introductions to the great author, James and the Giant Peach, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The latter, has been re-released as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – The Golden Edition by Roald Dahl, illustrated by Quentin Blake – and it is as fantastic as ever.

About Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl:

“Wonka’s famous chocolate factory is opening at last! But only five lucky children will be allowed inside. And the winners are: Augustus Gloop, an enormously fat boy whose hobby is eating; Veruca Salt, a spoiled-rotten brat whose parents are wrapped around her little finger; Violet Beauregarde, a dim-witted gum-chewer with the fastest jaws around; Mike Teavee, a toy pistol-toting gangster-in-training who is obsessed with television; and Charlie Bucket, Our Hero, a boy who is honest and kind, brave and true, and good and ready for the wildest time of his life!”

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – The Golden Edition is available from Amazon and other fine booksellers everywhere.
