UCCBy this time in August ever summer, I start making lists in my head about all the things I want to cram in before the weather turns.  Usually “camping” is one of the things on my mental and most years it begins and ends there.  I like the idea of camping, but I am not really a big fan of the actual camping part.

But I love everything associated with camping, from the equipment to cooking over a campfire.  The latter is why I was attracted to the book Ultimate Camp Cooking by Mike Faverman and Pat Mac.

About Ultimate Camp Cooking by Mike Faverman and Pat Mac: “Inside this portable, durable flexibound book, outdoor cooks will find more than 80 tasty dishes that can either be grilled over an open flame or cooked over a campfire in a Dutch oven. Faverman and Mac travel the United States to meet people and teach them how to make gourmet-quality dishes right at their campsites. Each delicious recipe is easily prepared using familiar, flavorful ingredients and basic cooking techniques, and the results are fantastic!”

Most of the recipes in this book are made from readily available products and can’t be classified as gourmet – but they are definitely fun and fall into the comfort food category.  For the most part the meals sound appealing and are relatively easy to prepare – so this book is actually practical.

I am told Mike Faverman and Pat Mac are comedians and their sense of humor comes through here as they share stories and observations on cooking by the fire.  Camping is supposed to be fun, right?

Ultimate Camp Cooking by Mike Faverman and Pat Mac is available from Amazon and other fine booksellers.
