Two views of the statue of the late Sir Laurence Olivier as Hamlet outside of the National Theatre on the Southbank of the Thames, London.

PEOPLEOne of the first things I do when planning a trip to London is to check out what is playing at the National Theatre on the city’s vibrant Southbank. I have seen many productions by the National Theatre over the years and have always enjoyed the experience.

I caught a matinee of the NT’s production of The Captain of Köpenick starring the amazing Sir Antony Sher yesterday, and plan to see the acclaimed British political play, This House, over the weekend.

I really wanted to see another production currently playing at the National Theatre, a new Alan Bennett play called People, but tickets were impossible to get. However, that is not the worst news possible, as People is the next production to be broadcast to cinemas all over the world as part of NT Live, the theatre’s highly successful foray into presenting live theatre to the masses.

I will be home by the time of the People broadcast and hope to check it out at one of the many venues hosting the broadcast in the United States.
